However, even after [the instructions] have been pointed out to him, as a result of his aversion, negative actions and obscurations [the deceased] may still fear the light rays and flee or he may still be confused even after saying the aspirational prayer. Then, on the second day, Vajrasattva’s assembly of deities comes to welcome him; at the same time, his negative karma [which leads to] the hell [realms] also emerges.
To point this out, call the deceased by name and say as follows:
O, Worthy Son! Listen without distraction! On the second day, a white light appears to you, which is the pure aspect of the water element. At this time, from the eastern pure land of Manifest Joy – Abhirati – the Lord Vajrasattva-Akṣobhya appears to you. His body is blue in colour, he holds a five-pointed vajra in his [right] hand and sits on an elephant throne, in union with his consort Buddhalocanā.
